Zalit Island
This is probably the most unusual trip with “Russian Tabor”, as our picturesque route runs not only on land but also on water.
It will start with a visit to Pskov and the nearby Isborsk Fortress, which was founded in the 12th centuries an outpost on the way to the North.
Another stop will be Pskov-Pechory Monastery/ Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery/ The Pskovo-Pechersky Dormition Monastery, established by Sainted Jona in the 15th century. This monastery is known to many from the book "Everyday Saints and Other Stories". Here we will attend a worshipping service and day prayers in front of “Dormition” and “Tenderness” - two Wonder Working Icons of the Mother of God dated back to the 15th-16th centuries. We will visit the close and remote God-made caves, where we will venerate the shrines with relics of Pechersk Holy Fathers.
We will see the burial places of Archimandrite John (Krestyankin) and Adrian (Kirsanov), the “starets” ( spiritual advisers) of the modern time.
Our journey will continue on water towards the Talab Islands – a picturesque piece of nature surrounded by Pskov Lake.
In 1958, yet unknown Archpriest Nikolai Guryanov was sent to service in Church
of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker/ St.Nicholas Church. His meek and humble life became an example of a genuine and unshakable faith. People came to
the prescient elder from all over the world, and the Lord comforted them and guided on the path to salvation through his mouth. We will visit his small hermit-cell of a house and will see what humble life Father Nikolai had there, carrying out his prayerful feat for 44 years. We will attend his grave, where an inextinguishable icon-lamp is burning and domesticated pigeons are fluttering.
