We will reach the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Monastery by the Holy Trinity Road. It’s an ancient prayerful path travelled by Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.
According to priest Pavel Florensky, “To understand Russia, you should understand Lavra;and to understand Lavra, you should take a close look at its founder, who was recognized as a saint during his lifetime – the miraculous spiritual leader Venerable Sergius of Radonezh”.
First, we will visit the town of Radonezh, where young Bartholomew spent his early years, and where his deep belief started. Here a mysterious old man in monastic robes appeared to him. This scene was captured by Mikhail Nesterov in his painting "The Vision to the Young Bartholomew".
Then, we will go to Pokrovsky Hotkov Monastery, where rest the relics of Sergius of Radonezh’s Godly parents, Kirill and Maria. As the Venerable bequeathed: “Before coming to me, bow to my parents”.
Finally, we will arrive to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, established in the 14th century by the Venerable himself. During 700 years, the magnificent spiritual center of Russia guards the history of the Holy Fathers and the power of their prayers. We will be taken on a fascinating tour around Lavra. We will attend the monastery worshipping services, address our prayers to Sergius of Radonezh and venerate the shrine with his holy relics. At the end of our pilgrimage trip we will visit The Gethsemane Chernigovsky Skete, the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius’s “Podvorye” (Metochion), named after the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem, where Jisus Christ was saying prayers. The Venerable was a prescient elder, who confessed Tsar Nicholas II. Also, the monks will take us on a guided tour of the cave temple of the 19th century.
